Jeff Martens Student Ministry Pastor
I grew up in Topeka and attended Northland Christian Church. Throughout my high school years I was encouraged and pushed by my youth pastor and a friend to help serve on the outreach team at a church called El Shaddai. Through their encouragement, and the love of the children there, I became aware of what my true passion was and what God wanted me to do.
After several years serving in this ministry, I decided to leave for Manhattan to attend Manhattan Christian College. While there, the friend who saw the passion I had and who had encouraged me to serve at El Shaddai, became my wife. I graduated from MCC in 2004 and returned to Topeka. After a couple of years trying to figure out where God wanted me to serve the opportunity was put in front of me of helping in the children's ministry at Central Park. I have been in this position for about five years now.
Since high school I have had a desire and passion to work with kids especially those who might be overlooked or at a disadvantage. Children living in the city are presented with many challenges and the Lord has laid it upon my heart to love on them. I have a passion to invest in kids and to watch them grow in their walk with the Lord. Through this ministry I have learned that I'm not really teaching them, they are really teaching me.
I have been married to my lovely wife, Heather, for 12 1/2 years and together we have two wonderful children. Tyler is 8 and he loves to play outdoors, ride bikes, play sports, and play with his best friend, Lucy the family dog. He is also a huge fan of Ninja Turtles. Just like his father, little people are drawn to him. Haleigh is 6 and she loves to dance, sing, and play with barbies. Hayleigh is also an avid reader and loves books. Clancy Nancy is her favorite. She is also very good at sharing toys, clothes, and parents with the many foster children her family loves on.
Jeff's passion for kids goes beyond the church, it's part of his everyday life. His ministry reaches into his home through the many foster children in and out of his home daily.
